A copyright protects original works in a permanent, physical form for the creator’s life plus 70 years. A copyright grants the rights to copy, distribute, perform, and create derivative works. A registered copyright grants the rights to license works and file infringement actions. The effective date of copyright registration is the date the copyright office receives the application, $35 fee, and work.
