sheet music and batonHooks include structural, instrumental, storyline, and production hooks. All sections have hooks. Primary hooks include the highest note of the melody, the first line of the chorus, the end of each phrase, the last line of each section, a 4 or 8 bar tag after the chorus, a melodic or lyric twist, chord progression, rhythm, intro, outro, instrumental counterpoint, instrumental riffs, call and response, and echoing the melody with an instrument. Secondary hooks include the intro, the interlude after the chorus, a variation in the chorus in the final fade, surprise elements, and repeated elements like a refrain in the verse.
